The Pine Cone Festival started as a vision of Tricia DuFour, Lake Arrowhead resident and owner of Arrowhead Pine Rose Cabins. Upon hearing that some folks off the mountain were under the impression that our communities had "all burned down" in the 2003 Old Fire, she thought the Festival would be a good way to showcase the mountain, local vendors and our wonderful communities. Tricia's husband, Dave, was the brains behind the original Pine Cone Olympics, one of the most popular activities of the Festival. Tricia retired from the PCF Committee several years ago, but our appreciation for her vision remains strong.
Fire prevention and forest health are key themes of the Pine Cone Festival. We are thrilled to have numerous first responder agencies participate each year, and always look forward to having Smokey Bear and Captain CAL on hand!

The Pine Cone Festival was established in 2006 to create a special event for the Communities of the San Bernardino Mountains which highlights the mountain environment,the importance of wildfire safety, educates and invites visitors to experience our unique setting year round. While shopping wonderful vendors and exhibitors, visitors will learn more about the forest and local natural features, and discover how important wildfire prevention is in preserving these wonderful resources. The Festival provides interactive activities for families and opportunities for local craftsmen, artists, retailers and non-profit organizations to participate and benefit financially.

Developed by a group of mountain citizens, the Pine Cone Festival and its activities are meant to enhance the options for local residents and visitors to enjoy the San Bernardino Mountains and learn about the forest and wildfire safety. The October event is coordinated by a volunteer steering committee, including Chair Laura Dyberg of Mountain Rim Fire Safe Council, Entertainment and Contest Coordinator Dana Weaver of Church of the Woods, Site Host Bev Brown of Rim Nordic and Info/Raffle Booth Coordinator Michelle French of FUNDamental Concepts, Shannon Dyberg, and Jenny Hueter General Manager, Rim of the World Recreation & Park District
Held in Running Springs, the event is centrally located for residents from Crestline to Big Bear Lake, yet a short drive up from the valley for mountain visitors.
The Festival is supported by numerous local organizations and businesses. Because of this support, we are able to keep this a FREE event. It has been a very successful festival and we are confident it gets better each year. The planning group welcomes your suggestions and participation.
